LeeAnn looks over the river near the Eagle trailhead. It looks like its about 50 feet down to the river. The beach at RISP Downstream from the dam, note the person walking on the rocks. We head down the trailhead next to our campsite. This was really fun to stumble across. We knew the trail was named Moonshine, but we didn't expect the Eagle Scouts to go to this level of detail. LeeAnn takes in the scenery on the Moonshine trail. Waterfalls are the defining feature of RISP. This is one of the waterfalls that can be seen from the overlook at the old Great Falls Cotton Mill. The Spring Castle is near the Cotton Mill. In its 19th century heyday, the cold spring waters provided refrigeration for the mill workers. Near the Spring Castle, the minnow house used spring waters to keep small fish alive near the dawn of the 20th century. A woman climbed her way down from the trail to get a river-level photo of one of the Twin Falls. This is the other twin fall. They both can be seen from the Downstream Trail on the north bank of the Caney Fork River. This smaller fall is found between the Twin Falls. A close up of a fall ... with Canada Geese A siren sounds and lights flash when water from an upstream dam is released. The Twin Falls are in the background. The siren sounded when they were on this waterfall. Its unclear if TVA officials simply wanted them off the waterfalls, or if a release was eminent. There had been heavy rainfall the prior two day. Down in the tiny town of Rock Island is this bus converted into an ice cream stand. We made a couple trips down to visit it. Three park visitors are seen water level. Even though the temperatures got into the 90s, the campsite was kept cool by the trees (and a fan).
