Big Things, Small Town

The World’s Largest Windchime

I found the Best Roadside Town in Illinois. It is Casey (pronounced KZ) and it has so many of the “World’s Largest...” This small town has over 25 supersized items, 13 of which have been recognized by Guiness as the World’s Largest.

It started with tall windchimes (which work) and now has things scattered all over the town and county. There is a large Bookworm in the lawn in front of the library, a Piggy Bank in front of a meat market and a Pitch Fork at a local farm that has a popular restaurant in the refurnish barn.

A post shows points visitors to the objects of note.

Some items are found inside businesses. One is a large jigsaw puzzle that is 8’ tall and 29’ long covering the entire wall of the Rock Hound Store. It is actually 60 puzzles that flow together (60,000 pieces) which took a couple over 1 ½ years to complete. I hang my head in shame that it is taking almost that long to do a puzzle at home.

I love getting off the Interstates to see small town America. If you are ever heading west on I-70 just into Illinois, get off at Casey for some smiles.

World’s Largest Rocking Chair

The World’s Largest Teeter Totter, on some Saturdays, visitors can use it as a functional teeter totter.

The World’s Largest Barber’s Pole, and a large sculpture of a pencil (its not identified as a World’s Largest).

This bookworm greets visitors to the public library. It’s not identified as world’s largest anything, but its pretty cool.
