Is New Orleans Closed?

When Josh and I lived in Vicksburg, MS, we would often go down to New Orleans just for the day, if not overnight.  We have our favorite places to get Cajun food and a great place to sit during the day outside to listen to live music. So, when we stayed at Buccaneer State Park on the Gulf in MS we just had to go back.

We like to take the scenic roads, not always the interstate, so we went US 90. We know the way, so we didn’t use GPS. After about 15 miles we see a road sign that reads “Bridge Closed 1 mile.” Sure enough, we get to the river and the next sign says “Road Closed, so we turned around and took another scenic road to I 10. It’s not long before we see a traffic info sign about a road problem ahead and traffic is stopped. We take I 12 to try to bypass and shortly there is a sign about some trouble ahead also. Josh pulls off and gets on map to find a way into New Orleans. My comment “Is New Orleans closed??”

Even with all the roads seeming to be blocked going into NOLA, the streets seemed even more crowded than normal. It is spring break time. We missed our beignets, but Josh had his gumbo and a Hurricane and we heard live music at the Gazebo Café. I had Boudin Balls and a Creole Splash, feels like Louisiana now.
