Update to my Animal Bingo Card

One of our stays in a Colorado State Park filled in several boxes on my Bingo card.

At the visitor center when we checked-in, I saw they had out three or four hummingbird feeders and about eight hummingbirds flocking around. I can pick up the ‘hum’ of their beating wings easily as we had several visit our feeder in MS. When we got to our site 7 more miles UP the road, I had one buzz my head as I was outside the camper. Cool, I love them, and they don’t actually hit you. He came by me closely again, so I stepped aside for it, which made it fly into the camper through the open door. Josh came and rescued it through a window he opened.

The bird liked our camper window and stayed around the whole time we were there. I have a potted Penta plant I have literally dragged all over the country, it was with us last year to Maine. I put it out by our family name sign as always and shortly looked out to see it drinking from the flowers. Told Josh there was the reason I have that flower with us.

This park also surprised us with a red fox just trotting casually through the campground, right down the road and into the sites. Josh saw her(?) and alerted me. We watched him head down to the stream. Later we were sitting outside when she came trotting back by. Barnie is always on a leash and started barking, but it was not too concerned. It just swung a little wider from our site and kept going. Saw her again the next day as we came up the road back to camp with something in its mouth - mouse, varmit?

A pair of moose graze in a meadow at Sylvan Lake State Park in Colorado. They were photographed from about 500 ft.

One morning we were going back down the mountain as there was ZERO signal in campground, there was even a sign on road up that said “No reception past here”, when out in a meadow we saw two moose. They were pretty far away but still a little skiddish of our truck stopping on the road to look. Josh got out and tried to get pics of them, but it was very overcast that morning so not the best lighting. Still was impressive to see the size and long legs of this animal.

We are often in awe of the different colorful birds in different areas of the country, I have several fold-up bird guides that we use a lot. And we see different birds of pry out here than at home, they need a Bingo card all their own.

We are pointed east now so will start seeing our more familiar animals but I will be excited to see wildlife out in the open.
