Nice Day on the Road
We had a good, if unusual travel day. First, it was the rare day we didn’t use any Interstates. We weren’t avoiding them, just didn’t need them. I doubt we spent 20 miles on roads with a speed limit greater than 55 mph, which makes for a relaxing day. The coach drives great at 65-70 mph, but everything’s even easier at slower speeds.
We crossed the Bay Bridge near Annapolis. Its our first time crossing the Chesapeake Bay in a coach, or together, for that matter. The bridge was gentle and easy to cross. So was the Solomon’s Bridge going over the Patuxnet River. I didn’t think either would be a problem, but it was still nice to actually get over them with no issues. On that matter, the new Nice Bridge crossing the Potomac River connecting Virginia and Maryland finally lived up to its name. This was the first time we got to cross the new bridge. The old was was okay, but a bit spicy. It was a narrow, steep, two-lane, no lane barrier bridge. The new one is four lanes with breakdown lanes and a barrier. It’s now truly a nice bridge. (Don’t worry, I know many of you have no idea what bridges I’m talking about.)
Before the trip, we drove the coach over to Mom’s house so she could go for a ride in it. She had a great time. We didn’t go far, but she really loved being in the passenger seat and taking in the view from the large windshield. Neighbors came over to the the big coach. Everyone seemed to have a good time. It was the first time we’ve hit the road with a sendoff.
